30° is the miter angle for a regular hexagonal box — a common size for bandsaw boxes and small hexagonal trinket boxes, and one of the "nice" round angles most saws hit precisely without needing a digital readout.

Why this one specifically

Hex boxes sit at a genuinely useful middle ground: enough sides to look meaningfully rounder than a square box, still few enough that six corners of accumulated error stay manageable if one joint is slightly off. 30° also happens to be the SAME angle an 8-... no — the same angle a 12-segment turning ring uses per edge, which is worth knowing if you're moving between flat hexagonal box work and segmented bowl turning, since the identical saw setting serves two different crafts.
