Why this one specifically

White oak's tangential shrinkage figure (10.5%) is the highest of the domestic hardwoods this site tracks, which sounds like a liability until you remember that whiskey and wine barrels are built from white oak specifically because staves swell tight against each other and seal a joint no glue is involved in.
