Why this one specifically

Cherry's tangential shrinkage (7.1%) sits below walnut and well below either oak, so panel gaps and seasonal movement are genuinely less of a headache with this species than the ring-porous hardwoods. What cherry is actually notorious for is photo-oxidation — the wood darkens and ambers noticeably within weeks of light exposure, uneven if part of a panel is covered by a runner or another object during that period. Builders who plan carefully for cherry's modest movement sometimes still get caught out by a two-tone panel from an unrelated cause.
